Dr. Yaakov Stern on the concept of cognitive reserve
In April 2016, the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease (JAD) reported the results of their search for the "Top 50 Most Influential Papers" in Alzheimer's disease research published in the last five years.
#1 in their results was "Cognitive reserve in ageing and Alzheimer's disease," by Taub faculty member Dr. Yaakov Stern, published in THE LANCET Neurology in November 2012.
In the video above, Dr. Stern speaks about his initial interest in the concept of cognitive reserve, and offers his perspective on the significance and impact of this paper on the field of Alzheimer’s disease research. Dr. Stern also spoke about the Taub Institute collaborations that enable his research, and provided an update on his research progress since the publication of The LANCET Neurology paper in 2012. In addition, he addressed the differences between the concepts of cognitive reserve, brain reserve, and brain maintenance, and provided some insight on building and maintaining cognitive health across the lifespan.
